"Plans and Dreams - Drawn in the GDR" is the title of the current exhibition at the Tchoban Foundation, which ends on September 7. The museum has graciously agreed to open - just for us - an hour before its usual opening time, so that we can have a tour of the exhibition unimpeded by the crowds that are expected on the final day. The exhibition contains drawings submitted for major architectural competitions in the GDR: Palast der Republik, Leipziger Gewandhaus, Opernhaus Leipzig, etc., as well as renderings of classical buildings in Potsdam and imaginary buildings that were never built. It's a rare insight into the architectural life of the GDR.
